New Zealand Consulting Engineers Ltd was set up by Dr Peter Johnstone in 2014 in order to create a legacy which would continue to develop and foster sensible engineering design processes after his departure, particularly at the concept design phase.
“Sensible engineering begins at the concept design phase with a first principles approach based on accumulated knowledge and experience across all age sectors. This approach is being lost in a world that is becoming increasingly reliant on computer driven analytical processes. These analytical processes often preclude the designers from having a “feel” for how rational and cost effective the concept design actually is. Sensible engineering will result in clients receiving much more value for their fee dollar spent and the consequential better end product.”
