Getting People Home
The apartments at 25 Tennyson Street were evacuated after the Kaikoura earthquake. Urgency was required, and it was up to a team of body corporate delegates, engineers at NZCEL, and a contractor to get these people home and safe.
The extraordinary efforts of the people of the Body Corporate, paired with great teamwork between all the moving parts of the project, made for a very pleasant process that brought people home.
We went into this project wanting to protect the life safety of people, by making the building more resilient against future crises. This was done not only through a method of repair, but also through the strengthening of the building, to 70% NBS. Concrete shear walls were sprayed at the top two floors along three elevations, and old columns were wrapped in concrete jackets to achieve a stiffer and more resilient structure.
