Caring for Those in Need
At the Pinesong Retirement Village, the safety of the people living there is paramount above all else. Block G, one of the buildings of the village required strengthening, and NZCEL were tasked for the redevelopment of the building.
As with all things at NZCEL, the ultimate goal was resilience. In accordance with that idea, two new reinforced concrete shear cores were included in the design. One of these cores will contain lifts, and the other access stairs, both for the tenants of the building. Other reinforced concrete walls will be provided between tenancies, providing suitable fire and acoustic ratings while also being able to resist lateral loadings that the structure experiences. Supplying this lateral resistance in both directions means that the new structural steel frames will act under gravity loads only.
